In 1920, the boat builder Jakob Boesch took over the shipyard Treichler & Co. in Kilchberg on Lake Zurich, where sailing, motor and rowing boats were newly built, overhauled or repaired. The company subsequently changed its name to Boesch & Co. From 1940 onwards, due to the war, Boesch concentrated on the construction of sailing and rowing boats, such as Star boats, small racing yachts with articulated hulls, which were manufactured as one-offs.
In 1952, Walter Boesch, Jakob Boesch’s son, developed the Type 500, the first series model for a fast motorboat. Series production began in 1954; production of sailboats was discontinued in 1956. By the end of the 1950s, there was a range of types with the B500, B560 and B640 models.
In the early 1970s, wooden boats increasingly became a niche product. Boesch’s boats were then built larger and more luxurious. As a result, the Daycruiser 720, Boesch’s first boat suitable for coastal use, was launched in 1975. The propulsion was optimized with a bump rudder and new coating materials were introduced with epoxy resin. In 1971, the third generation joined the company with the sons Klaus and Urs Boesch and the production facilities were moved to a new building in Sihlbrugg.
