- One of probably 25
- ready to race
- Abarths daily Racer
This is Carlo Abarth`s interpretation of a Daily Driver. The Abarth monomille.
MONO means: one cam and MILLE described the class: up to 1000 cc.
A brilliant Car with a hand bend bodywork out of aluminium based on the 600 D platform! Depending on transmission and final drive the Topspeed of 170 km/h – 180 km/h was possible. The sporty interior and a the breath taking outfit made it the eye catcher of the early sixties.
The new Abarth monomille was unveiled at the 1961 Frankfurt Motor Show in 1961. The shapely little body was styled in-house in Turin, and was built by the company’s preferred coachbuilder, Beccaris. Beccaris was specialised light weight bodies für Street and Racecars.
The idea behind the monomille was to produce a small, high-performance Coupe for a wider market. But the fun came with a high pricetag. The international press called the Abarth as “poor man`s Ferrari.” They were priced at 33% more than a Porsche 1600 C.
It is said that Mr. Abarth only built 25 of this little daily Racers, with no Data on how many survived.
The Abarth could be ordered with or without bumpers. They have been equipped with three instruments which were the same as from the Record Monza.
The Engine produced 60 hp out of 982 ccm.
Four Girling brakes were standard but the Campagnolo wheels in 4,5 x 13 were an extra.
This “little red one” was originally owned by the family of Carlo Abarth, its inventor. After several changes of ownership, the car came into possession of the current owner through the mediation of Carlo Abarth’s wife Anneliese. A great stroke of luck, because only a few dozen of the Abarth Monomille were built. The Abarth monomille saw a lot of usage at various Classic Car Races. The International Edelweiß Bergpreis and the Vernasca Silver Flag and Ennstal Classic just to name a few.
It is registered in Germany and a well-known Car. Anneliese Abarth helped the current owner to find this rare Abarth monomille.
